Proposed bill
Name:
A Bill to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia
Purpose:
Broaden the definition of marriage to include same-sex partnerships.
Proposed Enactment:
Beginning of 2016.
Applicable to:
Every citizen of Australia for whom the current Marriage Act applies.
The Government believes that Australia should join other countries such as New Zealand, Canada, the UK and USA in the will of freedom to legalize same-sex marriage. Why ignore something that is already a reality? Even the Oxford Dictionary has accepted same-sex marriage into its definition of ‘marriage’ since 2000.
Why has it taken this long for Australia to follow?
It is important to love yourself for who you are, not what the law says you are. Australia prides itself for being a ‘free country’, but is it really, when we are preventing happiness in individuals and communities?
Even if you want to stop homosexuality, making ‘straight’ people marry only won’t stop it. It has been scientifically proven that it isn’t the case that ‘straight’ people make more straight people, and gay people make gay people.
In conclusion, the government believes the bill should be introduced at the start of 2016.

≈ Comments Off on Freedom Rides (in 40 word notes)
Read the article on Freedom Rides in Civil Rights section.
Summarise each section in 20-40 words (some might be even less)
READ the whole section first
THINK ….. and then WRITE 2-3 sentences on what was the most important info. Just name examples, don’t retell the whole story.
If this is your first time doing this, it is OK to find it difficult 🙂

≈ Comments Off on DPSIR Framework
Following such brilliant environmental ideas such as introducing the cane toad to Queensland, we have come to develop a better understanding of the environment as a ‘system’ rather than just trying to tackle individual parts. Out of this ‘systems thinking’ came the DPSIR Framework.

This is a good starting point for looking at Martin Luther King’s acceptance and use of non-violence as a tactic.

≈ Comments Off on Environmental Change and Management
This will be a self-directed lesson where you can investigate an issue or issues of interest from the list below:
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Environmental Management
Each of these headings is also a link to pages from the Pearson Year 10 Geo textbook, however you should use this as a basis only. Read this first, then look for two other sources.
In your books, you should outline the issue by addressing:
– what is the problem?
– how did the problem come about?
– what are some solutions being proposed and implemented?
– how successful have these been?
* Finally, what were the two sources you used? How useful were they? (Refer to the ‘Origin and Purpose’ of the sources, and highlight aspects of value and any limitations)
And a heads up:
There will be an in-class task on Tuesday of Week 6 on Environmental Change and Management. There are a number of questions to complete in an “open book” format. Make sure you have your laptop and it is fully charged!
