Hi, sorry, still dying today

In starting a small business, it is important to have good support and professional sources of information.

Read & note section 11.3 (p. 351 of old textbook, p. 367 on pdf).

  • what is the SA Govt website for SME support? Can you find others?
  • does your local council have any support for starting up an SME?
  • what is a Chamber of Commerce?
  • Find the SA Chamber of Commerce.
    • what is its trading name?
    • list 6 services it provides
  • Do you think it would be worth it for a business to join the Chamber of Commerce or a Trade Association? Come up with 4 advantages and disadvantages.

Hi guys

Sick today – please watch ‘Starting a small business – key business functions’ on Clickview. (I can’t access it from home, but do a search to find it.)

From memory, it goes for 20-25 minutes. However, if you watch it with headphones and pause it to take notes on the key functions (info, examples etc.)  it should take most of the lesson.

Thanks

Animal Farm: Character poster

Characters:

  • Mr Jones
  • Major
  • Napoleon
  • Snowball
  • Squealer
  • Boxer
  • Mollie
  • Moses
  • The hens
  • The dogs
  • The pigeons
  • Mr Whymper
  • Mr Frederick
  • Mr Pilkington

Key to a story is the “construction” of character. Consider the author as a craftsperson. Things in stories (like characters) don’t just happen. They are made by the author (Orwell), crafted out of his language in the way he describes:

  • the things s/he does
  • the things s/he says
  • the way s/he reacts to, or interacts with, other characters we already know about
  • the way s/he adapts to, or rebels against, his/her environment
  • the connotations of the words Orwell uses to describe this character.

Create a poster or visual representation of your character. You should include examples (quotes or paraphrases) of how Orwell portrays this character. How is this character like the historical person (group) it is supposed to represent?
